Health Alliance honored: The Cabarrus Health Alliance has been honored by The National Association of County and City Health Officials for implementing its Electronic Medical Records /Practice Management Evaluation Project. The project aims to improve access to patient health data by replacing paper-based medical record systems.
City receives grants: Concord received two grants through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development: a $425,304 Community Development Block Grant and a $1,264,370 HOME program grant.

Concord 101: The City of Concord is accepting applications through Aug. 10 for Concord 101, a free class about city government. The 12-week class will meet 6-8:30 p.m. Tuesdays beginning in September. Details: ci.concord.nc.us.
Unemployment rises: The county's unemployment rate increased slightly to 10.8 percent in May, up from 10.7 percent in April, according to the N.C. Employment Security Commission. The state rate in May was 10.4 percent and dropped to 10 percent in June.
