The Cabarrus Sustainability Council is taking applications for a new annual award for sustainability that it intends to present at the Cabarrus Regional Chamber of Commerce's annual meeting in January.
The award will recognize industry leaders who are solving operational challenges by using innovative and environmentally sustainable practices or creative partnerships. Awards will be given in several categories, including a special environmental excellence award for recycling.

The Cabarrus Regional Chamber of Commerce is taking nominations for its 2010 Small Business of the Year Award, sponsored by Wachovia.
Qualifying businesses have 100 or fewer employees, are chamber members and have been in business at least three years. Businesses may nominate themselves or others.
The award is based on demonstrated growth in number of employees, sales or unit volume and financial position; innovation of product or service; response to adversity; and evidence of contributions to community-oriented projects.

A "Hearth & Harvest for Habitat" fundraiser will be 5-9 p.m. Oct. 28 at the Vintage Motor Club at Gibson Mill, 325 McGill Ave., Concord, sponsored by the Cabarrus County Building Industry Association and Professional Women in Building.
