Northwest Cabarrus junior Corey Seager was a member of the USA Baseball team that won gold at the Pan American U-16 Youth Championships in Mexico Oct. 17.
Seager was a starter on the American team that finished the tournament 9-0.
After an early deficit in the title game against the host country, the shortstop gave the U.S. a lead they would not relinquish in the fifth inning, when he brought home a run with an RBI double and later scored on a passed ball. USA won the game 11-4.
Seager finished the tournament with a .514 batting average, 18 hits and a home run. He was recognized as the best shortstop in the tournament, being named to the all-tournament team.
Last season, Seager led the Trojans' baseball team to a 21-10 season and a South Piedmont Conference title.
