Owners Chris and Julie Callahan offer much more than pizza at their new Main Street Pizzeria, in the former Little Spaghetti restaurant location at 969 N. Main St.
The menu also features 8-ounce, made-from-scratch Angus beef burgers, Julie's homemade lasagna and meatballs, and Maryland crab cakes made at the restaurant. The $8.50 entrées also include seafood scampi, fried ravioli, marinated steak tips and fish and chips (catfish).
They have subs and wraps that come with a choice of french fries or coleslaw, including the top-selling Loaded Steak Bomb, BBQ Pulled Pork and Vegetarian Delight.
The "from-the-grill" selections include everything from fish (tilapia) to chicken and shrimp quesadillas.
The Cheesy Bacon French Fries & Onion Ring Combo has proven the most popular appetizer since the restaurant opened Nov. 15. Others include fried calamari, chicken tenders and wings, nachos and a spinach-artichoke dip made on the premises and served with tortilla chips. Julie's Poached Pear (sliced pears, red onion, feta cheese and shredded carrots) headlines the salad selections.
But let's not forget the restaurant's 12 varieties of pizza, including Meat Lovers, Spicy Lovers Buffalo Chicken and Texas Style BBQ Chicken, and the one-of-a-kind Mexican Taco and Seafood Scampi pizzas.
The restaurant has a $5 children's menu and a drive-up window for takeout orders. Catering for small parties is available for pickup.
The Callahans grew up together in Salem, Mass., where Chris started his restaurant career as a dishwasher at age 14, working his way up to cook, kitchen manager and other jobs. In his mid-20s, he moved into institutional cooking and worked for Compass Morrison at a rehabilitation center.
The Callahans, both 41, most recently operated a full-service restaurant in the Virgin Islands for about five years. When they decided to return to the East Coast, they searched the Internet and chose the Mooresville area for the quality of its schools, its climate and its proximity to water. One of their sons is in high school; the other is grown and living in the Virgin Islands.

Jet's Pizza opens in Huntersville
HUNTERSVILLE Jet's Pizza, a Michigan-based pizza chain with stores in 11 states, opened a location last month at 14316 Reese Blvd. W.
Jet's Pizza is known for such specialty pies as the 8 Corner Pizza (eight deep-dish slices), its Jet's Boats (fresh-baked pizza dough stuffed with mozzarella cheese, pizza sauce and toppings) and its Deli Boats (steak, veggie, Italian, grilled chicken, tuna and ham and cheese selections).
