Teaching Fellows: Concord had more regional Teaching Fellow Finalists than any high school in Cabarrus County. Regional finalists are Jennifer Myers, Meredith Moore, Colin Kovacic, Sara Grace Holbrooks and Kaitlin Falleni.
Hickory Ridge High School
Audition winners: Five students from Hickory Ridge were selected to participate in the Charlotte Youth Wind Ensemble. The Ensemble is an honor band sponsored by the Department of Music at UNCC. Hickory Ridge had more students selected than all but one other high school in North and South Carolina. Selected for the CYWE are: Jacob Foster, Dylan Ward, Caleb Carpenter, Miranda Lurato and Logan Herrera. They will participate in rehearsals and concerts under the direction of Dr. Laurence Marks, associate professor and director of bands at UNCC. One local concert date is scheduled at Robinson Hall at UNCC 7:30 p.m. Feb. 22. The concerts are free and open to the public.
All District Band: Ten Hickory Ridge students will participate in the upcoming South Central District Honors Band Clinic in Hickory. More than 1,000 students auditioned. Sarah Schauber, Jonathan Thompson, Joey McCracken, Greg Larson, Steven Covington, Taylor Gherardi, Logan Herrera, Caleb Carpenter, Jacob Foster and Dyland Ward will represent Hickory Ridge. Carpenter, Foster and Thompson also qualified to audition for the All-State Honors Band in March.
Covenant Classical School
Open house: Covenant Classical will hold an open house at 10 a.m. Feb. 5 for grades K4-12. Appointment: Pfeiffer University President Michael C. Miller has named Bobby Stewart to vice president for advancement. Stewart most recently served as the school's interim chief operating officer and athletic director. In his new role, Stewart will be responsible for the execution of development and fundraising to secure financial support for the university.
