A year-round market featuring fresh flowers, homemade foods and desserts and handmade crafts by local artisans will debut May 19 at The Loft at 14th, a private-event space at 14 Cabarrus Ave. W.
At Meredith's Market, vendors also will offer coffee and tea, all-natural cleaning products and local grass-fed beef.
Others will sell pickles, vinegars, homemade breads and crafts such as children's hair bows, said Meredith Beregovski, who owns The Loft at 14th and came up with the idea for the market.
The market will have fruits and vegetables, but Beregovski said the venture isn't a farmers market.
Never miss a local story.
"It's a 'local market,'" she said.
The market will accommodate up to 20 vendors each Thursday and will offer delivery of vendor goods by bicycle to downtown businesses and homes, she said. An email newsletter will list vendors for coming weeks' markets, and a checklist of items for order will be distributed.
Each vendor will pay a one-time $50 application fee and then $15 each week they sell at the market.
A different local nonprofit organization each month will be able to set up an information table at the market.
Vendors will teach workshops, such as about coffees and teas, gardening and cooking . Artisans could host "wine, dine and create" dinners, Beregovski said.
The market will begin by opening from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., although eventually those hours may shorten, she said.
The market's May 19 grand opening will coincide with the first 2011 "Union Street Live" concert. The Downtown Concord concert series is 6-9 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month from May through September on the historic courthouse lawn on Union Street.
