OK, parents: The kids have been out of school for a little more than two weeks now. Are they driving you crazy yet?
Can you really count on just one hand the number of times they said they were bored, or does it take two hands more?
Perhaps you had planned to sign them up for something, but all the camps were full or just too expensive. Or maybe you are enjoying your round-the-clock schedule with them and just need some time to get some food for the house, have a quiet dinner with your spouse or collect your thoughts for an hour.
Have no fear: Relief is in sight. Beginning Monday night and running through Thursday, Concord Church of Christ will offer its vacation Bible school program. There will be crafts, skits, music and Bible stories.
"Our theme is 'Run the Race.' We will be focusing on the stories of Abraham and Sarah, Stephen, Samson and Joseph," said church member Josh Nettles, organizer of the program. "All of these characters faced various trials and persecution along their spiritual race of life. We will bring this all back to the many trials and persecutions that we may suffer today in this life for doing God's will."
Classes will be available for kids of toddler age all the way up to eighth grade, plus classes for adults.
"One added benefit of having VBS in the evening is that the fathers and men of the congregation have a chance to teach the classes, which the kids love," Nettles said. "We typically have 225 to 250 people in attendance, with about exactly half of those being kids and half adults."
Guest evangelist Paul Sheehan will conduct the adult classes.
"VBS builds great memories for kids that last a lifetime," Nettles said. Sounds like a wonderful program for both children and their parents.
Vacation Bible school at Concord Church of Christ will run 7-8:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. It's free.
The church is at 4595 Poplar Tent Road, Concord. For more information visit www.concordchurchofchrist.org or call Nettles at 309-253-9408.
