Back-to-school website: Cabarrus County Schools has set up a dedicated Web page for back-to-school information at www.cabarrus.k12.nc.us/backtoschool. The site includes details about academic calendars, transportation, bell schedules, report card and progress report dates, open house events and more.
Shoe distribution event: Samaritan’s Feet will host a shoe distribution event for children and youths 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Aug. 16 at Logan Recreation Center, 184 Booker Ave., Concord. Volunteers will distribute 500 pairs of shoes for school. Dental screenings and kindergarten physicals and immunizations will be provided at the event. Sports physicals will be scheduled, and students can receive free backpacks, school supplies and other goodies. Host families: The Council on International Educational Exchange is seeking host families in Charlotte and surrounding counties for international high school students arriving in August 2014. Host families bring high school exchange student into their homes for five or 10-month periods. Kindergarten orientation sessions: Kindergarten camp orientation sessions for rising kindergarteners will be held 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Aug. 20-21. Football night: Cox Mill Elementary Night at the Cox Mill High School vs. Mount Pleasant High School football game is 5:30-9:30 p.m. Sept. 5 at Cox Mill High’s stadium. Tailgate starts at 5:30 p.m., and the game starts at 7:30 p.m.
Dive into School Camp: A free camp for students entering kindergarten – second grade this fall at Winecoff Elementary who live at Brooke Pointe Apartments will be held 9-11 a.m. Aug. 18-21 in the Brooke Pointe Apartments Community Room, 1445 Fairington Drive NW, Concord. Students will participate in hands-on activities, build home libraries from book bins, receive guided reading instruction and learn through digital tools. Snacks will be provided. C.C. Griffin Middle
Dress code decisions: C.C. Griffin Middle School Leadership Team, comprised of teachers, administrators, clerical staff and parent volunteers, has been considering the possibility of implementing a uniform code of dress since the spring of 2014. Based on the feedback received, the team has decided to extend the decision-making process through January 2015 but has adjusted the existing dress code slightly.
