Clay artist Allison McGowan Hermans’ second annual studio open house will feature works by potters McGowan Hermans, Jen Mecca and Amy Sanders and felter Colleen Hewlett. McGowan Hermans creates functional, highly textured, handbuilt porcelain works inspired by art nouveau architecture, patterns that occur in nature and the tailoring of sewn objects. Mecca’s works are whimsical, colorful and functional and range from mugs to large serving bowls. Sanders, who was an affiliate at the McColl Center for Visual Art in Charlotte, makes earthenware vessels that create a balance of visual elements of form, texture and pattern with utility. The Davis Theatre’s flagship performing arts series, On Stage at the Davis, presents the Annie Moses Band. This band of seven siblings has played in famous venues from the Grand Ole Opry to Carnegie Hall with their baroque pop that features electrifying instrumentals and layered vocals.
