CROP Walk to close streets
The 2008 CROP (Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty) Hunger Walk will close some streets this afternoon around Memorial Stadium.
Starting at 2 p.m., an expected 10,000 participants will walk the following route: Kings, Seventh, Davidson, 18th, Pegram, Belmont, Seigle, 10th, McDowell, Seventh and back to the stadium on Kings.
Expect delays in the area for much of the late afternoon and early evening.
A fleet of approximately 300 buses will transport an estimated 18,000 students to a preseason Charlotte Bobcats game at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Stay aware of clogged traffic and temporarily closed lanes on streets around Time-Warner Cable Arena.
Carolina Panthers game
The Panthers return home to host the New Orleans Saints at 1 p.m. next Sunday. Traffic officials recommend carpooling or taking public transportation to avoid backups and stuffed parking decks. Interstates 77 and 277, and streets immediately around the stadium, likely will see traffic jams.
Church Street reopening
After closing last week for sewer repairs, Church Street between Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and First Street is expected to reopen by 6 a.m. Monday.
