North Carolina high school students can study Mandarin on weekdays from July 6 to 17 at Queens University of Charlotte's 2009 Summer Institute in Chinese.

Experience life during World War II as interpreters re-enact events during an encampment at the Charlotte Museum of History from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
Visitors will learn about the war and its effects on Charlotte. Regular admission applies: adults, $6; students and senior citizens, $5; ages 6-12, $3; under age 6, free.

Foundation for the Carolinas is accepting grant applications on behalf of the Ginter Foundation. Grants ranging from $5,000 to $15,000 will be awarded to nonprofit organizations in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area for projects covering human services, health, immigration, education and children and youth.
