Jordan Ray Preiss, a 2004 graduate of Myers Park High School and a 2009 graduate of Duke University, is one of three first-year students at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University to receive a Brody Medical Scholarship.
Preiss is the daughter of Cathy and Richard Preiss. The scholarship provides full tuition and fees to incoming medical students who show high scholarship ability, leadership, a desire for service, moral character and a promise of distinction in medicine. Details: 252-744-2482.

Charlotte Christian School will hold five open houses for parents and prospective students. Junior kindergarten and kindergarten open houses will be 9:30 a.m. Oct. 8 and 28, and 7 p.m. Nov. 5. Parents of children entering grades 1-5 are invited to a 9:30 a.m. open house Nov. 4. Parents of children in all grades are invited to an open house 3 p.m. Nov. 14.

Mariah Monsanto from Charlotte Country Day School was selected to attend the Adventures of the Mind summit at the Institute for Advanced Study and Princeton University this month. Charlotte Christian School will kick off its fall theater season with three classic performances in October. The upper school ACT 1 drama team, winners of the 2008 N.C. Theatre Conference State Competition, will perform Shakespeare's “Twelfth Night” and Disney's “Mulan” on Oct. 1 and 3. Middle school students will perform “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” on Oct. 29 and 31. Evening performances begin at 7 p.m., Saturday matinees start at 2 p.m. Reserved floor seats are $10.
