The Gaston County Police Department will sponsor the two-day AARP Driver Safety Program from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 3 and 4 at the police department, 420 W. Franklin Blvd. in Gastonia.

City Manager Jim Palenick has announced that Assistant Fire Chief Jack "Tony" Robinson will serve as interim fire chief for the city of Gastonia Fire Department. Former Chief Kenneth Lay recently resigned to accept the fire chief's position in the town of Fishers, Ind. Robinson is a 26-year veteran of the Gastonia Fire Department, with 30 years of service with the city of Gastonia.
The Gaston County Parks and Recreation Department will hold a meeting to schedule dates and facilities for athletic tournaments and events at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in meeting room A of the Citizens Resource Center, 1303 Dallas-Cherryville Highway in Dallas. Those wishing to schedule park dates in 2009 must attend or have a representative attend for them. Successful tournament dates from 2008 have precedence.
