Hundreds of music lovers are expected downtown Friday night, when the weekly public music festival, Hickory Alive, starts its nine-week summer run.
The free live concerts on an outdoor stage every Friday night in June and July have been a tradition in downtown Hickory for about 20 years. Bands perform at Union Square from 7 to 11 p.m.
The classic rock band Diamond Back headlines the show Friday.
Bring a blanket or lawn chairs and enjoy the music, said Joanna Agosta Shere, a member of the Hickory Jaycees, a co-sponsor along with the Hickory Downtown Development Association.
Food and drink will be sold by sponsors – Ice Cream Engineers, United Beverage and downtown restaurants.
Other sponsors are Blue Ridge Harley Davidson, Carolina West Wireless, Iron Thunder Saloon, Focus Magazine, 8th Floor Media and Wallace Printing.
“Hickory Alive is something the community has enjoyed for years,” Shere said. “We feature local pop and rock bands.”
All of last year's bands are back. And Throwdown Jones was added to the lineup because this year's calendar has nine Fridays in June and July.
