The Caldwell Arts Council and Tri-State Sculptors Association will hold the 24th annual Sculpture Celebration at 9 a.m. Sept. 12 at J.E. Broyhill Park, 509 Ridge St. in downtown Lenoir. The Blue Jeans Preview Party will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 11 at the park.
The Preview Party offers a chance to meet the artists and will feature dinner and live music by Four People.
A presentation of Sculpture Celebration Judge John Henry's work will follow. Tickets to the party are $15 in advance. Reservations are required.
The Sculpture Celebration will feature live music by the Sylvio Martinat Swing Band from 10 a.m. to noon, and the Harris Brothers from 1 to 3 p.m. Refreshments will be available from local vendors. Foothills Art Gallery members will help children create sculptures from recycled items. Admission is free.

Three-dimensional artists can register to compete in the festival up to the day of the event for $60. Each sculptor may present three sculptures. Awards include $2,500 Best in Show, $2,000 first place, $1,500 second place, $1,000 third place and several $500 honorable mention awards.
Also, the winner of the new Public Art Award will receive $2,000 and a chance to have their sculpture displayed in front of the Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute campus on N.C. 321.

The Friends of the Caldwell County Public Library will hold its annual September Book Sale on Sept. 25-26 at the Lenoir Library, 120 Hospital Ave. in Lenoir.
The preview sale, for Friends members only, will be 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sept. 25, and the sale for the public will be 9 a.m.-noon Sept. 26. Memberships are available at the circulation desks of all library branches and also at the door the day of the sale. Donations of books, music, videos, DVDs, audiobooks, current magazines and puzzles are needed for the library's collection and the sale. Items can be brought to the lower level of the Lenoir Library.
Money raised from the sale will be used to support the Caldwell County Public Library and its programs.
The Veterans Memorial on the southeast quadrant of the square in Lenoir is under construction and scheduled for completion in November.
Tiles with names of veterans can be bought until Nov. 1 for $125 each. Tiles will be placed in the memorial by the May 2010 Memorial Day Service.
