Mooresville Graded School District
New leadership: Mooresville Graded School District unanimously approved two new principals and a new exceptional children director at the board of education meeting June 30. Dennis Hobbs was named the new principal at Park View Elementary and Meghan McGrath was named the principal at East Mooresville Intermediate. Gloria Jones was named the exceptional children director.
Fall sports tryouts: Tryouts for Blue Devil football will be Aug. 1, and tryouts for soccer, volleyball, girls tennis and cross country will be held Aug. 3. A tryout date for golf is yet to be decided. A mandatory meeting for all parents and students participating in fall athletics at Mooresville High will be held 8 a.m. Aug. 1 in the auditorium. Library day: The Lakeshore Elementary library will open and materials will be available for students to check out for summer reading 1-2 p.m. July 21 and Aug. 4.
Volleyball camp: Volleyball camp for rising fifth-, sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders will be offered 5:30-8:30 p.m. Aug. 3-6 in the Lakeshore Middle School gym. Cost is $55. The registration form must be completed and turned in to school office, but the registration can be paid either by check at the office or online at the school’s website. Summer Transition Camp: The 2015 Troutman Middle School Summer Transition Camp for rising sixth-graders will be held 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Aug. 11. Lake Norman High
Aviation academy: Lake Norman High student Damon Reddy has received a sponsorship from the Experimental Aircraft Association, Inc. to attend the EAA Advanced SportAir Academy Aug. 3-9 at the EAA Aviation Center in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The program offers students ages 16-18 a chance to meet and work with aviation professionals. Participants come from across the United States and several foreign countries. Activities include flight experience, workshops and classroom study.

Parking passes: Parking passes will be available 8 a.m.-noon Aug. 10 for rising seniors and the same time Aug. 11 for rising juniors, both in the media center. All fines must be paid before passes will be issued.
Back 2 School Bash volunteers: Volunteers and donors are needed to help out with the 2015 Back 2 School Bash, which takes place 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Aug. 1 at Mooresville High School’s Magnolia Campus. The annual community event supplies new shoes and school supplies for students in need in the Mooresville Graded and Iredell-Statesville school districts.
