Merrill-Jennings Galleries in the Davidson Arts District at 463 S. Main St. has seven showrooms featuring original art by internationally recognized painters, top local artists and talented newcomers.
Partners Kate Merrill and Susan Jennings originally owned art galleries in West Chester and Bryn Mawr in Pennsylvania. They moved to Davidson in 1997.

Charlotte Writer's Club
Charlotte Writers' Club North meets the first Thursday of each month at So Alive! Art Gallery at 108 S. Main St. in Davidson.
David Fleming was the featured speaker on Sept. 4. He is a senior writer for ESPN The Magazine and also the author of two books; "Noah's Rainbow: A Father's Emotional Journey From the Death of his Son to the Birth of his Daughter" and "Breaker Boys: The NFL's Greatest Team and the Stolen 1925 Championship."
Founded in 1922, Charlotte Writers' Club is a membership organization whose mission is to support Charlotte's community of writers. The North satellite group's schedule for the year:
Oct. 2: Visit to Lenoir-Rhyne University Visiting Writers Series. Anna Quindlen, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and best-selling author, will appear at 8 p.m. at Lenoir-Rhyne.
Nov. 6: Al Young, novelist, poet, essayist and scriptwriter who also is the poet laureate of California.
Dec. 4 Alan Michael Parker, poet, essayist, novelist and Director of Creative Writing, Davidson College.
Jan. 8: Janice Fuller, writer-in-residence and professor of English, Catawba College.

Exhibit of works by photographer Boraks
The work of Davidson photographer David Boraks will be on display starting Monday through Nov. 1 at Creative Art Exchange gallery in the Cornelius Arts Center, 19725 Oak St.
This show includes images that are documentary and artistic. An opening reception with the artist is Friday at 7 p.m. Boraks will give a gallery talk about his work on Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. and host an open gallery event on Sept. 27 from 1-4 p.m. Creative Art Exchange is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays by appointment.
