Help for Haiti: Cannon School students raised more than $10,000 for American Red Cross relief efforts in earthquake-ravaged Haiti. The funds were raised during the school's "Hockey for Haiti" campaign with the Charlotte Checkers hockey team. Students presented a check to a representative from the American Red Cross.

Science Olympiad: For the 13th year in a row the North Meck Varsity Science Olympiad team took first place out of a field of 21 teams in the Charlotte Regional Tournament and will be heading to the State Tournament on April 24 in Raleigh.
College festival: The fifth annual HBCU College Festival entitled "Winning Against the Odds" will be held from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. on March 27 at Mount Carmel Baptist Church. Please bring your transcript and SAT/ACT scores for on-site admissions. Refreshments and door prizes will be available. Fundraising campaign: The school has pledged to read 1 million minutes over a two-week period to benefit Doctors Without Borders. Just how much can you earn by reading a million minutes? $10,000! During the campaign, which runs from March 15 - 29, students will collect one cent for every minute read. Walk for diabetes: The school Walk for Diabetes will be held March 26. This is an important event for the school, which consistently ranks as top in the Southeast and one of the top schools in the country in fundraising for the American Diabetes Association through this effort.
