As the proverb goes: no matter how long the winter, spring is sure to follow. And after an unusually harsh winter, which closed schools multiple times, signs of spring are everywhere.
"We had something like a 28-day stretch where we didn't get above normal, and that's really rare for the Charlotte area," said Terry Shirley, a meteorologist who teaches at UNC Charlotte. "And some days we were like 15 to 20 degrees below normal. We also had six different snow events, and we normally average only two a year."
What can we expect for spring and summer?
"Things I've read show the pattern of cool and wet will persist through spring and, possibly, summer, but those things are really hard to predict," Shirley said.
