Lisa Carlay, a Mooresville resident, recently was honored with a prestigious North Carolina Home Builders Association's Stars Award: 2009 Best Special Project-Kitchen Renovation.
Carlay, who has worked at International Kitchen & Bath in Davidson for seven years, won for a kitchen design in a home off Langtree Road.
Carlay said she has garnered around 10 local and state awards during her International career, including a series of top showings for Lake Norman Home Builders Association's annual "Best of the Lake" competition.
Raised in Raleigh, Carlay arrived in Mooresville in 1993 to help run a construction company. A mother of two - daughter, Casey, 16, and son, Nick, 14 - Carla has made Lake Norman home and takes advantage of the region's resources.
After graduating from Appalachian State University with a degree in commercial design in 1989 and spending time building homes, Carlay stumbled onto kitchen design in 2003. Crediting her boss, Brian Tarle, for providing an opportunity, Carlay said she's making the most of it.
"I just happened upon the job," she said. "I was not seeking this (career), I just found it."
