Barbecue fundraiser: Sports boosters will sell barbecue, beans, slaw and bread for $8 per plate April 19 to raise money for athletic programs and fields. East Lincoln Middle
Spelling bee: Kiley Jane Hogue placed in the top 10 at The Charlotte Observer Regional Spelling Bee on March 15. This was the third round of competition, after Kiley beat out all other competitors at East Lincoln Middle to go on and win at the county level.
Headmaster scholarship: Families interested in applying for the Headmaster Scholarship will find the guidelines on the site at www.davidsonday.org/scholarship-aid.html. Please submit your application to Denise Koeth in the main office no later than April 20.
Lego/Robotics: The school is launching the 2010-2011 Lego/USFirst Robotics program for grades K-12. The program includes $12 million in scholarship opportunities for Upper School students. Registration forms are due by April 16 to Denise Koeth, and only a limited number of spots are available. You can check out the brochure online at usfirst.org. Art show and competition: Art from some of the area's most talented and creative students will be showcased through April 25 at The Great Frame Up in Birkdale Village. This exhibition is part of the national Creative Self-Expression Show. The Great Frame up will host a reception 5:30-6:30 p.m. April 17 to celebrate the work of the city's next generation of artists. All entries will be judged, with one piece from each school moving onto the national competition, where first place will be awarded a $2,000 scholarship.
Scholarship opportunity: High school seniors interested in a career in human services can apply for the third annual Debbie Antshel Memorial Central Piedmont Community College scholarship. The winner of the scholarship will be awarded full tuition and fees for their freshman year at CPCC. Applicants must meet the following criteria: attend CPCC this fall and major in human services or a related field, and show commitment to community service through volunteer experience. Auction: The 2010 Rotary Auction for Education - presented by the Rotary Club of Lincolnton, Rotary Club of Denver-Lake Norman and Rotary Club of Lincolnton-Sunrise - will be held April 15-17 at the James Warren Citizen's Center, 115 W.
