The rivalry is renewed again. This time in baseball.
After spending their spring breaks playing at the East Mecklenburg Spring Showcase tournament, the Hopewell Titans and North Mecklenburg Vikings are ready to dive back into conference play.
The teams are very even in terms of record and the first meeting of the cross-town rivals should be a competitive game.
The Titans faced stiff competition in the East Mecklenburg tournament and struggled a bit, coming out with only one win (a 14-5 decision against Mount Pleasant April 6) in three games.
While Hopewell (8-5) has struggled in nonconference play, the Titans are dominating the I-Meck with a perfect 5-0 record.
They hope to continue that streak with a win over North Mecklenburg as teams enter the last month of the regular season.
The Vikings fared the same as the Titans in the East Mecklenburg spring break tournament, winning only one game with a 9-0 victory against Mount Pleasant.
They even have the same record so far this year (8-5), but are only 3-2 in the conference, putting them in a three-way tie for third in the I-Meck with Lake Norman and Mooresville.
The Vikings are in need of a few quality I-Meck wins to move themselves to the top of the conference standings. A win against Hopewell will bring the Vikings within one game of the conference leader.
North Mecklenburg will get home field advantage in the first meeting of the two teams this year and they must use that to their advantage.
