Hopewell High School
Art show and competition: Art from some of the area's most talented and creative students will be showcased through April 25 at The Great Frame Up in Birkdale Village. This exhibition is part of the national Creative Self-Expression Show contest, sponsored by The Great Frame Up. All entries will be judged, with one piece from each school moving onto the national competition, where first place will be awarded a $2,000 scholarship. Local awards will be given to winners in each of six categories.
Health screening: Heart of a Champion Day for the 2010-2011 School Year will be June 5. Sponsored by Carolinas Medical Center, Orthocarolina & Sanger Clinic, this is an opportunity for your child to get a free health screening, including a general assessment (height, weight, vision, blood pressure, etc.), a cardiac assessment (including an Echocardiogram and EKG) and orthopedic assessment.
Lake Norman Charter High School
Driver's Education Classes: The deadline to sign up for these classes is April 23; the first 35 to sign up in the office will be admitted. Classes will be held 3-5:30 p.m. May 5-20.You are only allowed to miss two classes and they must be made up May 21 and 24. A student must have turned 14 prior to Nov. 6, 2009, to be eligible.
Popcorn sales: The band will be selling popcorn from Preston's Popcorn on Wednesdays at lunch through April. There will be kettle, movie, cheddar and white cheese; each bag is $1.
Sports boosters: The HS Boosters will meet May 24, when voting will be held for the new Athletics Booster Board for 2010-2011.
Seeking volunteers: Volunteers are needed for 2010-2011 PTO positions for fundraising, which is a commitment at the beginning of the school year and involves the management of the order taking and tallying during each PTO fundraiser. Details: Vicky Seksinsky at email@example.com.
Junior prom: The junior prom will be 7 p.m.-midnight May 21 in the Palmer Pavilion of the Birkdale Golf Club. Only juniors who attend LNCS are invited to prom; however, juniors are allowed to invite one guest who is another LNCS student (9th or 10th grades included) or someone outside of LNCS.
North Mecklenburg High School
PTSA Book Drive: There is a special need for "Siddhartha," 'Night," "The Catcher in the Rye" and "1984." Drop books off in any English teacher's classroom.
Cannon Middle School
Concert: The Middle School Strings Concert is 7-9 p.m. April 27 in Taylor Hall.
