Fox & Hound at Birkdale Village
Now is the time to take advantage of local restaurants that offer patio seating. Fox and Hound in Birkdale Village, which has outdoor seating options in the shade, is offering lunch specials for $5.99. Choose from 10 entrees, such as fish and chips, burgers and wings, Monday through Friday from 11.a.m.-2 p.m. $2 draft beers every Tuesday and Thursday, and live music every Saturday and Sunday night through Sept. 11 with Birkdale Village's "Mingling on the Green" Concert Series.

North Harbor Club overlooks the lake
For a meal overlooking Lake Norman, head to North Harbor Club in Davidson for Saturday or Sunday brunch, where you'll find everything from French toast to Cajun shrimp and grits to a chicken and mozzarella melt. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner Monday through Friday, and brunch and dinner Saturdays and Sundays. $4.50 martini during "Martini Mondays."

Carolina Ribs on the Run
Have a craving for some ribs but don't want to slave over a hot grill? Carolina Ribs on the Run on Brawley School Road in Mooresville is earning praise for their ribs in flavors such as honey barbecue, teriyaki, raspberry habanero, sesame ginger and more. You can also order wings, pulled pork and chicken tenders. The restaurant also preps grill-ready ribs if you want to pick up a pre-marinated rack to put on your grill at home.

Kids eat free -- Pomodoro's and Zapata's
Looking for some sit-down options where your kids can eat for free? Pomodoro's in Mooresville just relocated to a larger space in Consumer Square Shopping Center next to the AmStar Cinemas on N.C. 150, at Exit 36. Each Monday and Tuesday, during lunch and dinner hours, receive one kids' menu item free with the purchase of one adult entrée. The child entrees include fried cheese and macaroni bites with French fries, chicken tenders, cheese or pepperoni pizza and cheese tortellini with marinara. The rest of the menu contains a large selection of entrees for every taste and budget, whether you're in the mood for a stone hearth pizza ($13.75 for a large and $2 for each additional topping) or shrimp alfredo ($14.95).

On Sundays, kids eat free at Zapata's Mexican Restaurant in Cornelius. Choose from burritos, chimichangas, quesadillas and combination platters, with plenty of vegetarian options as well. Entrée prices range from $9.45 to $14.95. The kids' menu has Mexican selections, as well as the standard chicken tenders and grilled-cheese sandwich choices.
