Michael Waltrip Racing hosted its annual Fan Appreciation Day with activities including show car displays, pit stop practices, games and musical entertainment.
Drivers David Reutimann, Martin Truex Jr., JTG Daugherty, Marcos Ambrose, Trevor Bayne, Ryan Truex and Michael Waltrip were on hand to sign autographs May 26 at the facility in Cornelius.
Mooresville resident, Devon Sheffield, is a 10-year-old, fifth-grader at Pine Lake Elementary School and was eager to test his skills at the pit stop practice.
When Devon was ask if he wanted to drive a race car when he grows up he quickly replied, "Yea, but I want to race modified cars not NASCAR. There is a ton of annoyances in NASCAR because everyone hounds you for your autograph."
Never miss a local story.
Devon proudly bragged about the four, new autographs he had gotten that day.
Huntersville residents and 9-year-old twins, John and Ryan Gyuriof, enjoyed testing out The Pit Indoor Kart-Racing go-carts.
Ryan said the highlight of his day was "getting to meet David Reutimann," while John like "getting all the free stuff."
Three-year-old Indian Hill resident Allen Quiles was thrilled with the race cars, but spent most of his time at the CASA animal adoption and foster booth visiting with the cats.
