One of the major fund raising efforts for Communities in Schools takes place Tuesday, with the 11th annual Dine Out for Kids event.
At last count, 66 Charlotte-area restaurants will participate in the program, donating a portion of their gross sales for the day to Communities in Schools, which provides a variety of services to schools with large percentages of low-income students.
CIS aims to prevent students from dropping out, by providing staff members as counselors at schools, donating school supplies, and a number of other efforts. During the recent school year, CIS was involved at 44 Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools, servicing 5,000 students.
A list of participating restaurants is available at the CIS website, www.cischarlotte.org.
