A first in racing: Michael Cherry, 21, of Mooresville recently won his first career late model race at Hudson's Tri-County Motor Speedway, becoming the first African American to win a late model race at the speedway. Cherry led all 35 laps en route to his first career NASCAR Whelen All-American Series victory.
