Teen Awareness & Safety
Seminar: Presented by the Cornelius Police Department in partnership with United Family Services and The BRAKES program. Lincoln Charter School
Honor School of Excellence: The N.C. Board of Education recently named Lincoln Charter an Honor School of Excellence for 2009-2010. Eight percent of N.C. public schools received this award, the highest category of recognition. Honor Schools of Excellence have at least 90 percent of their test scores at or above grade level, and show at least expected growth.
St. Mark Catholic School
Philly Pretzel Day: Pretzels will be on sale during all lunches Oct. 22.
Days off: The school will be closed Oct. 29 for a Teacher Workday and Nov. 1 in observance of All-Saints Day.
East Lincoln Middle
New Building Addition: East Lincoln Middle School dedicated its new building at a special PTO event for parents, students, teachers and members of the community that included band and chorus performances, the reading of a student's poem and remarks from Melanie Huss, a former student who is now the school's principal . The new 28,712-square-foot building houses the entire 8th-grade classroom wing, as well as one Exceptional Children classroom. The $2.6 million addition, which was completed on Aug. 15, includes the new wing, new baseball and football fields, a track and new parking area. The last addition to the school was in 1993.
Grace Covenant Academy
Fundraiser: Students will participate in a school fundraising event called "the Fun Run" Oct. 22. Each class will run laps together in the school lot to earn money from sponsors. It will also be Silly Sock Day and students are encouraged to wear unique or silly socks. 17301 Statesville Road, Cornelius.
