Nearly 100 people turned out for the Polar Bear Plunge into Lake Norman on Jan. 1 at The Point Lake and Golf Club. Everyone who took the plunge donated $100 to the nonprofit Hope at the Point Foundation.
The foundation will distribute the money to the Mooresville Soup Kitchen and to another local charity called Stop Child Abuse Now, said event organizer Michael "Bo" Watson.
The Point's Polar Bear Plunge began in 2009, when Watson and four friends jumped into the lake on New Year's Day. Each then donated $100 to the Hope at the Point Foundation.
The event has grown each year, with $7,000 raised in 2010.
Never miss a local story.
