Hearts for Holt: The Hope for Holt Foundation raises awareness about cystinosis and supports the Cystinosis Research Foundation's search for a cure. Holt Grier, a Davidson Day Montessori student, battles this rare, incurable disease. Hearts for Holt, which includes dinner, entertainment and live and silent auctions, is 6-12 p.m. Feb. 12 at the Charlotte Country Club. Valentines Night Out: Seniors will be babysitting in the Commons for those seeking a sitter for Valentines Day. Cost is $10 an hour per child, $5 per hour for each additional child. The money goes toward the Senior Class Trip in March.

Pet food drive: Student Noah Steiner, 17, is raising awareness for the homeless pets at Cornelius Animal Rescue. A pet food drive will be held at the school through Feb. 18. Bring in canned or bagged pet food and pet toys.
SAT Prep: The SAT Test Prep Workshop will take place Feb. 15-March 10 for Davidson students taking the March 12 SATs. The sessions take place two afternoons each week from 3:45-5:30 p.m. For information contact Ben Putman 704-237-5281.
Lecture series: FBI Special Agent Joe Zadik will help parents learn about basic Internet safety, how to supervise Internet use and the dangers of chat rooms. Open to all 6:30-8:30 p.m. Feb. 9. $5; DDS parents $4. Free for DDS students.
Bailey Middle School
Contest winners: Reagan Walker and Casey Sarano are the winners in the writing portion of the Bailey Middle Martin Luther King Jr. Contest. Guadalupe Juarez has won the art portion of the contest. These winning entries have been sent for judging in the District wide contest.
College prep: Parents in the Lake Norman area are invited to attend "Getting the Most out of the High School Experience: Creating Opportunities for the Future," 7 p.m. Feb. 7 in the Chapel at Davidson United Methodist Church. This event is free and open to the public. Interested parents can RSVP at www.cannonschool.org/collegeplanning.
St. Mark's Catholic School
Faith Appreciation Day: Students will spend Feb. 2 to deepen their understanding of the Catholic faith. Students will attend mass and hear from various speakers from church clergy.
Student Appreciation Day: Feb. 3, designed to be a fun day for students to participate in the annual Wacky Races, a series of relay races with other classes.
Family Appreciation Day: Feb. 4.
Who's Who: Betsy Lyles, a senior at Davidson College, was inducted into the Who's Who national honors program. She is the daughter of Steedman and Cissi Lyles and is a 2007 graduate of North Mecklenburg High School. Lyles is an English major with a concentration in Communication Studies. Lyles is a Defense Advisor for the Honor Council, a Speaking Center Tutor, a Pope Scholar and a Wachovia Teaching Scholar. Lyles studied abroad in Indonesia and Kenya.
Dance-off: Primrose Schools has launched a family dance-off benefiting the Chidren's Miracle Network Hospital to step up its fight against childhood obesity. Primrose invites familise across the country to submit their 30-second dance videos at FamilyDanceoff.com to compete for cash prizes and a donation to their local Children's Miracle Network hospital.
