Lake Norman and Mooresville sit only six miles apart, but the archrivals spent most of the wrestling season together at the top of the 4A polls.
Lake Norman won the regular season I-Meck conference title, also claiming the 4A West Regional title and got to the 4A state semifinals before losing to eventual champion Parkland.
The Wildcats, who also set a single-season record for wins at 34-2, qualified a school-best nine wrestlers for the state meet.
Mooresville, which won the I-Meck tournament title, also set its single-season record for wins with 31. The Blue Devils, led by coach Ben Watson, also qualified a school-record nine wrestlers for the state meet.
Several individual wrestlers from Bandys to Hopewell to Southlake Christian also made their mark.
Wrestler of the Year: Harrison Honeycutt,
For the last three years, Harrison Honeycutt dominated the state of North Carolina as a wrestler.
The state champion saved his best for last this year, winning his third consecutive title by pinning Butler's Matthew Bennett in 27 seconds.
The 215-pounder won his four matches in the state championship meet by pin.
Honeycutt, who won 147 out of his last 148 matches at Lake Norman, now takes his All-American talents to N.C. State.
Coach of the Year: Morgan Fore, Lake Norman
Since taking over the Lake Norman program two years ago, Morgan Fore and the Wildcats have gone to new heights as they not only have gone 67-7 in that time, but also won back-to-back I-Meck and 4A West Regional titles in the process.
Fore led Lake Norman to a 34-2 mark this year, advancing to the state semifinals in the state dual tournament, the best they have ever done.
