East Lincoln Middle School
Soil and Water Essay Winner: Sixth-grader Claudia Sisk won first place in the Lincoln Soil and Water Conservation Essay Contest. Her prize included $100.
East Lincoln High School
Cheerleading tryouts: Cheerleader workouts for the 2011 football season will be held March 9. Tryouts will be held 3:20-4:30 p.m. March 10 in the old gym. Each participant must have a valid physical. Physical forms are located in the main office.
William A. Hough High School
School selected: Hough High was selected by the Echo Foundation to host their Humanity's Day and Dialogue Day. This includes a visit by Nobel Laureate in Chemistry Dr. Aaron Ciechanover. The theme of the event is "What can one person do?" Humanity's Day took place March 2 as a precursor to the Nobel Laureate's visit. Dialogue Day is set for 9 a.m. April 5 in the Hough Auditorium.
Davidson Day School
Coffee with the Headmaster: Join Head of School Bonnie Cotter for coffee and conversation about the next year and beyond at Davidson Day. Room 400 in the U.S. Hallway. 2:30 p.m. March 10.
North Mecklenburg High School
Debate team: Eleven members of the North Meck Debate & Speech Team attended the Chase High School tournament in Forest City. Senior Cameron Langford and junior Conner Taylor, placed first with The Public Forum Team. Senior Brittany Wallace and junior Lauren Calucag placed second with the Duo Interpretation team. Senior Raul Gonzalez took third in Original Oratory.
The Carolina West NFL Student Congress qualifying tournament was also held to determine who will represent the western half of North Carolina at the NFL National Championships in June. In House II, junior Catherine Bizub tied for first, which places her as first alternate to nationals. In House I, freshman Itay Hasmonay placed fifth. The team is coached by Christopher Rocca.
Angels of '97: All you can eat Spaghetti Dinner and Auctions on March 19. Other events include entertainment, recipient wall of fame, vendors and hot air ballon rides. Details: www.angelsof97.com.

Community School of Davidson
Fundraiser results: Community School's international organization, Cara a Cara, hosted ¡Chili for Chile! Feb. 24. Cara a Cara partnered with a school and an orphanage in Chile to provide needs, supplies and funds through Corporacion para la Nutricion Infantil. More than 100 people attended the event raising more than $400 from the sale of the donated homemade chili.
