Inaugural Athletic Hall of Fame: The South Iredell Athletic Booster Club is accepting nominations for the Inaugural Athletic Hall of Fame. Cum Laude Society: Several Cannon School junior and senior students were inducted into the Cum Laude Society on April 28 for academic excellence. Modeled after Phi Beta Kappa, the society recognizes academic achievement in secondary schools. The following students were honored for placing in the top 10 percent of their junior class or top 20 percent of their senior class: From Mooresville: Hayley Dane, junior; and Whitney Yaniero, junior. National Spanish Exam: A competition sponsored in March by the American Association of teachers of Spanish and Portuguese awarded Cannon School students nationwide in the Spanish 1 level against 33,000 students.
Eighth-graders earned two gold medals, 11 silver medals and five bronze medals. Gold winners are: Kelli Baker, of Concord, and Sydney Frankenberg, of University City.
