Civil rights activist Jesse Jackson spoke in Charlotte Wednesday morning regarding the violent incident that happened in an S.C. classroom between an officer and a student.
Jackson called the classroom incident “totally unacceptable.” He said other students were traumatized by the situation.
The FBI is taking the lead in the investigation after a video was released Monday showing Spring Valley School Resource Officer Ben Fields slamming and dragging a female student in a classroom arrest.
Fields is a senior deputy with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
In addition to focusing on the use of force by the deputy, Jackson touched on registering 100,000 new voters before the February presidential primary in South Carolina and the expansion of Medicaid for uninsured Carolina citizens.
