Independence High School sophomore, Parker Melting, won the Southwestern 4A conference golf championship on Oct. 13 at Larkhaven Golf Club.
Melting, the lone player on the Patriots first-ever girls golf team, shot a 77 to win the title.
Porter Ridge’s Emily Anderson (80), Myers Park’s Bailey Dorton (82) and Audrey Nelson (85) and Porter Ridge’s Nicole Conti (89) also earned all-Southwestern 4A Conference honors.
Myers Park, led by Coach Jason Lockwood, won the SW4A conference team title, shooting a 264 to beat Porter Ridge by nine shots.
Charles Basse is continuing to build on his career scoring record for East Mecklenburg’s soccer team.
On Oct. 7, the senior forward scored two goals against Independence High school to break the old record of 84 set by Sean McGinty.
A few days later, Basse scored six goals in East Mecklenburg’s 7-5 win over Rocky River High. Basse now has 32 goals for the season. That’s two short of the school record.
Teammate and midfielder Christian Thomas has six goals and 12 assists for the season. Jack Mehrtens has now has five assists.
