The Matthews Community Farmers' Market is still open, offering the largest gathering of local growers of any area produce market. It opens at 7:15 a.m. every Saturday on North Trade Street in downtown Matthews. Details: www.matthewsfarmersmarket.com.
The market hosts chef demonstrations, tastings and other special events each weekend.
A recent tomato-tasting contest drew more than 100 customers, who tasted 34 samples grown by market farmers.
First place in the large tomato category went to Striped Germans grown by Sam Koenigsberg of New Town Farms. In the small category, there was a tie for first place between Juliet grape tomatoes grown by Fred Mundie of Big Oak Natural Farm and Sungold cherry tomatoes grown by Dane Fisher of Fisher Farms.

Boneheads' grand opening
Boneheads will host a grand opening celebration Saturday with giveaways and family entertainment. Hours were not set as of press time.
The Carolina Panthers Top Cats will sign autographs along with mascot Sir Purr, 102.9-FM will broadcast live and there will be a bouncehouse for kids. Boneheads is at the Stonecrest Shopping Center; 704-910-5180.
Carolina Cake Show
The Carolina Cake Show will return to Carolina Place Mall on Sept. 20, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The show draws cake decorators from across the region.

Monty's new hours
Monty's Seafood Grill has new operating hours.
It is now open 7 days a week and the bar is open 4 p.m. to 1-2 a.m. Dinner service is 5-10 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 4-8 p.m. Sundays. Brunch is offered 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Sundays. Monty's is at Ballantyne Commons East, 15205 John J. Delaney Drive.
Seafood Boil menu
Upstream has debuted a Low Country Seafood Boil menu, offered Thursday and Friday nights through October.
Guests can dine on the outdoor patio or in the trendy lounge and enjoy the fresh catch menu created by executive chef Tom Condron and chef de cuisine Scott Wallen. It includes Charleston she crab soup ($5-$8), stuffed wood roasted oysters ($8-$14), steamed mussel pots ($10), Low Country shrimp boil ($25 for two people or $45 for four) and a Low Country clambake with a variety of shellfish including lobster ($50 for two people or $90 for four).
