A driver who was involved in an earlier wreck was struck by a hit-and-run motorist early this morning on Providence Road.
The incident forced police to close Providence Road north of Fairview Road for several hours before daybreak. All lanes were reopened by 6:30 a.m., however.
According to police, a man was driving on Providence Road about 3:30 a.m. when he apparently lost control of his vehicle and went off the road and down a small embankment. The driver got out of the vehicle and walked back up to the road, trying to flag down other motorists for help.
But as he was standing there, the man was struck by a hit-and-run motorist. The victim was taken to Carolinas Medical Center, but police say his injuries are not life-threatening.
It is not clear if police got a description of the hit-and-run vehicle.
