Festivals and fall activities are well underway in Indian Land.
Financial gains from the Fall Into Fun festival will be felt for years to come at the new Del Webb Library on S.C. 521 south of Sun City Carolina Lakes. The library is scheduled to open in late 2008 or early 2009.
Indian Land Elementary School's PTA Community Relations officer Alberto Benitez introduced me to their new Web site: www.indianlandespta.org. He says it is the PTA's initiative to help keep parents informed. You'll want to take a look.
The public is invited to the Sun City Art Festival, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. It will be held at the Lake House. “Various clubs will be showing examples of their work, and a limited number of pieces will be for sale,” said Lifestyle Director Trevor Sunderlage. There will also be food and entertainment.
On Sept. 28, we welcomed our new CVS neighbors: Store manager Dana McBride, pharmacy manager Lee Lourimore and Mike Cauthen, pharmacist supervisor at the new CVS pharmacy at Carolina Commons. Additional stores and medical offices are also under way in the new shopping areas on both sides of S.C. 521 south of Sun City.
We're fortunate to have so many new people, businesses and community-supporting groups in our midst. During the past two years, much has changed yet much remains the same. The spirit of the people who make this place great has not changed. We work together and grow together. We continue to care about and for each other.
I've been fortunate to personally meet so many of you who live in Indian Land and beyond. You tell me about the exciting things you're involved in, and you share news about others whose stories deserve to be told, too.
For many years, I have kept a large picture of flying birds above my desk. The words underneath – by Virgil – simply say: “They can because they think they can.”
The people I have been privileged to meet “think they can” – and do. You have brought joy to the hearts of those who share your lives by reading about you. Your spirit strengthens and energizes all of us.
