Here's my promise to you as the editor of South Charlotte News: We are here to listen and tell your stories.
Our mission is to focus on news from your neighborhoods and communities - to ensure that your accomplishments and those of your neighbors are published in our newspapers and on our websites.
And I also promise that when you call us, e-mail us or interact with us in your neighborhoods, we will always listen to your needs.
What is the foundation of my promise?
Never miss a local story.
First, I am your neighbor.
I graduated from South Mecklenburg High School in 1972.
Second, I have 30 years of experience as a journalist.
After heading off to East Carolina University and later to three newspaper jobs, two in Maryland and one in New York, I returned to Charlotte to work for the Observer in April 1983. I have lived in south Charlotte for most of that time, so I know our community well.
Leading our community news coverage is a return to my roots as a journalist. Fresh out of college, I started a weekly community newspaper in Baltimore County. I never forgot the feeling of being the editor and meeting people in their neighborhoods.
It was exhilarating to be that close to readers.
I look forward to rekindling that spirit again with my neighbors in South Charlotte News.
We have many communities to cover in our weekly edition:
Arboretum, Lansdowne, Providence Plantation, Quail Hollow, Park Crossing and other nearby neighborhoods;
I will be talking with you again soon. Let me know how I can help tell your stories.
