Budget meeting: Residents of District 6 (CMS schools south of Pineville-Matthews Road) are invited to participate in an open forum budget meeting with the Mecklenburg Delegation and several CMS representatives 10 a.m.-noon March 26 at Providence High School's auditorium, 1800 Pineville-Matthews Road.
Tree care: The Town of Matthews Appearance and Tree Advisory Committee is leading a two-part workshop called "A Homeowners Guide to Successful Tree Care." The first session is 7 p.m. March 29 at the Matthews Community Center, 100 West McDowell St., and the second session is 10 a.m. April 2 at Four Mile Greenway. Both classes will be held rain or shine. Dress comfortably for outside weather.

"Pints for Pounds": In January and February, local blood donors and sponsors helped the Community Blood Center of the Carolinas donate 30,570 pounds of food to Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina through "Pints for Pounds," where CBCC donated six pounds of food for every pint of blood donated. South Charlottean Brian Huneycutt was named Advocate of the Year.
Choir contest: Local choirs are invited to participate in KFC's nationwide contest, through which 11 choirs will get $1,000 grants and sing at a local KFC. Any choir is eligible. Deadline for nominations is March 31. Details: KFCSundayBuckets@gmail.com.
