Indian Trail plans to beef up security around its town hall.
After watching a news report from a 2008 shooting rampage at a Kirwook, Kan., city council meeting that left six people dead, Indian Trail Town Council member Robert Allen suggested this week that the council consider tighter security.
"This is a very real situation, and we don't have a plan," Allen said. "We have battery back-up for our lighting, we have defibrillators and we have fire extinguishers."
The council voted unanimously to increase lighting in the town parking lot and directed town staff to draw up a plan for protecting people and property at the town government center.
