For seniors: Operation Fan/Heat Relief, a summer fan distribution program that operates each year throughout North Carolina, is now under way. This summer marks the 25th anniversary of the program that began in 1986 and is managed by the Division of Aging and Adult Services in the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services.
People 60 or older or people with disabilities are eligible to receive one fan per year to help alleviate heat problems within their home. The Council on Aging is distributing fans to Union County residents. Contact the Council on Aging at 704-292-1797 or visit its office at 1407 Skyway Drive in Monroe.
Elections: The filing period for municipal offices will will begin at noon July 1 and close at noon July 15.
Elections will be held Oct. 11 in Monroe and Nov. 8 in Fairview, Hemby Bridge, Indian Trail, Lake
Park, Marshville, Marvin, Mineral Springs, Unionville, Waxhaw, Wesley Chapel and Wingate. The filing period for the Nov. 8 municipal elections will begin at noon July 25 and closes Aug. 12.
Filing will be held at the Union County Board of Elections at 316B East Windsor St, Monroe. The filing fees are $5. Call 704-283-3809.
Vaccines: The Union County Health Department now offers vaccines for residents traveling internationally.

Online service: The Union County Register of Deeds office is now accepting marriage license applications through online submissions.
