Two dentists are opening their office this week on a day they normally are closed, to help children in their community.
Stacy and Brad Forrest of Forrest & Forrest Cosmetic and Family Dentistry in Stallings are participating in the American Dental Association's Give Kids a Smile Program.
On March 9, they'll provide teeth cleaning, dental exams and fluoride treatments to 50 students from Stallings, Fairview and Hemby Bridge elementary schools.
"Our practice has been open 10 years, we live in this community, the office is in this community and the community really has always supported our office," Stacy Forrest said. "We have amazing patients, and this is a great way to give back in a small way."
Never miss a local story.
The Forrests signed up for the program after receiving an email about it from the ADA. The schools are helping them find students in need of care.
Stacy Forrest said they want to reach children whose parents don't have dental insurance and who don't qualify for Medicaid.
Several of Forrest & Forrest's staff, including two hygienists, two dental assistants and a front desk employee have volunteered to work for free Friday.
"They understand the importance of it, and most of them have their own kids," Stacy Forrest said. She said dental checkups are important for all children because they get children in the habit of going to the dentist and provide important preventative care. The Forrests plan to continue participating in Give Kids a Smile and hope to expand it next year.
