The three high schools from the city of Rock Hill have dominated Upper State football in recent years.
Northwestern has had the most recent success, winning two of the last four AAAA Division II state crowns, in 2010 and 2013.
Rock Hill High also has two AAAA Division I state championships, in 2002 and 2004.
South Pointe High, which didn’t open until 2005, already has two state titles to its credit, winning the AAAA Division II championship in 2008 and the 3A crown in 2011.
This season, both Northwestern and South Pointe enter the season with state-title aspirations again.
York, which last won a state championship (AAA) in 1986, has had three 10-win seasons in a row under coach Bobby Carroll.
Nation Ford also will try to take another step forward as the school finished a program-best 7-5 in 2013, beating Fort Mill for the first time.
