Chef Gerry Garvin
Chef Gerry Garvin is a James Beard nominee, television host, cookbook author and accomplished philanthropist.
The Atlanta-based chef filled recently kicked off a new nationwide campaign, Give It Up For Good, and plans to bring his One Bite Foundation and show “Underground BBQ Challenge” to the Charlotte area.
Garvin has teamed with Allstate insurance for Give It Up For Good. Anyone doing good in their community anywhere in the country can tweet the good deed they’ve done using the hash tag #GiveItUpForGood. Garvin and Allstate will then highlight and profile each person.
Participants are encouraged to share their stories at www.allstate.com/giveitupforgood.
The One Bite Foundation is Garvin’s way of giving back to the community. Sensing a lack of young African-Americans in the culinary field, Garvin started the foundation to “provide a platform for kids who may not have been interested in the culinary field to take a look at it.”
