Men’s Shelter of Charlotte
Volunteers needed: The Men’s Shelter of Charlotte needs volunteers to serve dinner during the first and third Wednesday of each month. Food is donated by Elwoods Barbecue & Burger Bar and served by groups from St. Matthew Catholic Church and Elevation Church, but additional servers are needed. Bazaar and bake sale: Adnah United Methodist Church will hold its Bazaar and Bake Sale 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Adnah Family Life Center Building, One Adnah Drive in Rock Hill. Hope and Heart Benefit: Local nonprofit The Respite, A Center for Grief and Hope will host its third annual Hope and Heart Benefit 7-9 p.m. Oct. 24 at the William Davie Center at William R. Brookhaven Family Run
Chase a cure: Help chase a cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy at the seventh annual Brookhaven Family Run for Duchenne 8:30 a.m. Oct. 25 at the Brookhaven Clubhouse on Stanbury Drive. Register online or make a donation at www.brookhavenfamilyrun.com. The run is in honor of 10-year-old Jake Pritchard and all boys with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
Comedy Zone fundraiser: Local autism nonprofits Reagan’s Wish and S.A.M. will have the spotlight at a fundraiser at The Comedy Zone on Oct. 29. A costume contest will begin at 7

Give Hope Global
Orphan care: Give Hope Global will hold its first Give Hope Gala from 6-10 p.m. Nov. 1 at Bank of America’s Founder’s Hall, 100 N Tryon St. There will be dinner by Aria, live music, a magician and silent auction. Proceeds will benefit Give Hope’s efforts to provide care to 188 children in southwest Haiti, as well as funding a vocational school and aquaponics system. Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Association
Fight the Flame 5K: The Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Association will hold its second annual Fight the Flame 5K at 8 a.m. Nov. 2 at McAlpine Creek Park, 8711 Monroe Road in Charlotte. Proceeds benefit RSDA to help fight this neurological syndrome that affects about 6 million people in the U.S. Tickets are $25 until Oct. 25 and $36 thereafter. Habitat for Humanity
Tastes of Habitat: Tastes of Habitat, a fundraising event for Habitat’s Women Build program, will feature Lake Norman’s finest chefs preparing special meals to raise money for safe, decent and affordable housing for females in the local community. The event will be 6:30-9 p.m. Nov. 6 at the Charles Mack Citizens Center in Mooresville. Tickets are $40 per person and available at www.ourtownshabitat.org. Volunteers also are needed.
The HeartBright Foundation
Soiree & Wine Auction: The HeartBright Foundation is hosting its annual Soiree & Wine Auction 6:30 p.m. Nov. 8 at Bonterra Dining & Wine Room, 1829 Cleveland Ave. Tickets are $500-$625 per person with the goal of raising money for the programs of the foundation, which seeks to promote cardiovascular wellness through prevention, awareness and partnerships. Levine Senior Center
Shopping from the Heart: The Matthews-based business JAJ Nonprofit Resource is partnering with the nonprofit Levine Senior Center to hold the second annual Shopping from the Heart nonprofit expo, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 15 at the Levine Senior Center, 1050 DeVore Lane in Matthews. Admission to the shopping event is free, with giveaways every 30 minutes. There will be as many as 35 nonprofits setting up shop in the ballroom and giving shoppers a wish list of their needs.
