Mardi Gras Gala success: The ninth annual Lupus Mardi Gras Gala raised more than $73,000 for the Lupus Foundation of America, North Carolina Chapter. More than 270 people attended the Feb. 21 event that has generated more than $511,000 for the LFANC during the past nine years. Learn more at www.lupusnc.org.
Fundraising success: The nonprofit organization Hayden’s Hope, which seeks to offset costs of organ transplants among children, has raised $120,000 since ESPN TV and Radio host Dari Nowkhah and his wife Jenn founded the organization in 2011. Animal Adoption League
Foster homes needed: The Animal Adoption League in Rock Hill is seeking foster homes for dogs and cats. Foster homes are asked to provide foster animals with love, food, water and shelter. AAL was founded in 1992 by a Charlotte-area group to provide veterinary care and temporary-to-permanent housing for homeless and rescued animals. To learn more, visit www.mynextpet.com.

Volunteers needed: The Clover Area Assistance Center, 1130 S.C. 55 East, is seeking volunteers with skills in curriculum development/instruction; programs and services; information technology; financial assistance; and personal budgeting. Volunteers for pantry and computer intake also are needed. As the largest food panty in western York County, CAAC provides aid through food, financial assistance, education and medical care. Critical shortage: Due to the recent winter weather, the Community Blood Center of the Carolinas is facing a critical blood shortage. Donors are asked to come to a center or mobile drive. Drive hosts are also needed. Visit www.cbcc.us or call 704-972-4700 for information.
Pint for a Night: Donate blood through the end of April with the Community Blood Center of the Carolinas and you will help provide a room for a family in need at the Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte. For each blood donation, CBCC will make a monetary donation to Ronald McDonald House, which provides an affordable and homey place to stay for families of sick children.
Chaplains needed: The airport chaplaincy team at Charlotte Douglass Airport needs to expand its daily presence at the airport. This organization consists of volunteering ministers from several faiths. A commitment of four hours per week during the same day and time each week is asked. All volunteer chaplains have the opportunity to participate in Critical Instant Management courses (tuition is paid for) and become a member of the International Association of Civil Airport Chaplains. Relay for Life
Drop-In session: There will be an informational drop-in session for Relay for Life of Ballantyne 6:30-7:30 p.m. March 10 at South Mecklenburg Presbyterian Church, 8601 Bryant Farms Road, room 202. Learn about becoming a team member for the overnight event to take place May 29-30, which raises money for the fight against cancer. Registration open: The Greater Carolinas Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society opened registration for all 2015 Walk MS events. Outreach training: There will be volunteer training through Justice Ministries, which helps battle local sex trafficking, 9 a.m.-noon March 21 at Sharon United Methodist Church, 4411 Sharon Road.

Help needed: Justice Ministries works to combat sex trafficking and exploitation of women with a focus of rescue and housing. Wesley Chapel Open Market: The Union County Girl Scouts from Troop 1279 and 2684 will host the second annual Wesley Chapel Open Market and Yard Sale 8 a.m.-2 p.m. March 28 at Siler Presbyterian Church, 6301 Weddington Monroe Road, Wesley Chapel.

Nonprofit competition: JAJ Nonprofit Resource and South Piedmont Community College will hold a Nonprofit Empowerment Conference June 5-6. Five nonprofit finalists will be interviewed on stage during the event on June 5 with the winning nonprofit receiving $1,500 and the runner up receiving $1,500.
