Many area teams will wrap up their regular seasons this week and turn their focus to the postseason tournaments.
A few teams will use this week to determine seeding in conference and state tournaments, while others' fates have long been determined.
The last few games of the regular season are key, as teams try to peak in their final tuneups before postseason tournaments begin. Some of the best matchups this week include:
Never miss a local story.
Vance baseball will close out a long season against North Meck. The Cougars have really struggled this year but hope to be back next year with a more experienced team.
Mallard Creek will take on Hopewell in several key matchups that will end the regular season for both teams.
The soccer team will close out a five-game road trip with a pivotal match at Hopewell that could determine second place in the conference.
The softball teams also will meet at Hopewell.
The Mavericks baseball team will travel to Hopewell for a crucial conference showdown. Mallard Creek came into the season with huge expectations but lost to the Titans 4-1 earlier this year and is fighting off Hopewell and North Meck for the second seed in the conference standings. The winner of this game should secure that seed.
The Vance softball team will play at Berry Academy. The Cougars have struggled in softball as they have in baseball but hope to use this year to build themselves into contenders next year.
On Friday, Vance will finish its regular season with a double-header against Hopewell.
