A front porch fire turned out to be just part of the story early Thursday morning at a house in Charlotte’s University City area, authorities say.
A passing motorist called 911 about 4 a.m., reporting a fire at a house on Mallard Crossing Drive, off Harris Houston Road. Firefighters quickly put out the blaze, but investigators told reports that the blaze’s cause was suspicious.
NewsChannel 36, the Observer’s news partner, is reporting that a can of gasoline was found near the house’s front porch, where the blaze apparently started.
The house was vacant, but two cars were found in the garage. And police say one of those vehicles had been reported stolen.
Fire and police are working to unravel the mystery.
No injuries were reported.
