Luxe apartment construction starts: Crescent Resources has begun construction on Circle University City, a 546-bedroom, student-targeted luxury apartment complex that will open in the summer of 2014. The 4.7-acre site will be across the street from UNC Charlotte’s main entry.
Amenities include individual study areas with iMacs and printer, a yoga/barre studio and a stand-up tanning bed.
Help the homeless: The University City YMCA is hosting the Room in the Inn, which aims to keep homeless people warm at night, on Feb. 23. Volunteers and donations such as mini-toiletries, towels, socks, underwear and breakfast are needed. For information, visit urbanministrycenter.org.

Butts stink: University City youth groups are invited to join the “Tobacco is Harmful, No Butts About It” community service project in March. Participants are asked to identify a location in their city or county, such as a park or public place where smoking takes place, and pick up cigarette butts at the location any time during the month of March.
